PLACEMENT OF NEW MAGNET SCHOOL CREATING DIVISION IN PICO RIVERA
During a regular Board of Education meeting this Tuesday at Pico Rivera’s City Hall, parents, teachers, students and community members voiced their concerns about the magnet school that the Board plans on opening at the closed elementary school, Selby Grove.
Despite the Board having voted on Resolution No.44-2013/2014, the decision to create a magnet school with an International Baccalaureate Diploma and Performing Arts focus, almost two years ago and hosted three public forums prior to the board meeting, this issue dominated the public comments section of the meeting’s agenda.

IS GOD A HOMOSEXUAL?
Religious institutions and organizations have been the only community within society that ardently works to villainize, criminalize and more recently shun the homosexual community.
It is interesting to see the evolution of God’s homophobia mediated through his worshipers, from the 16th century where the first laws against sodomy and “acts against nature” were set forth in England and followed suit by her colonies in the Americas, where the punishment for sodomy was commonly death, to the 20th century where, until 1973, homosexuality was considered a mental disorder.

#FREEPALESTINIANIGNORANCE
Taylor Force, an American tourist was killed this Tuesday by a Palestinian terrorist in the Israeli port city of Jaffa. The suspect was shot and killed by Israeli police, a common fate of the numerous lone attackers that have instigated a five month long terror spree in Israel and the Palestinian territories. The conflict has so far claimed the lives of 28 Israelis and 176 Palestinians.
These actions committed and praised by Palestinians shows that they are not ready to have a state of their own; their representatives’ lack of control and approval further proves this to be true. The sole reason for this is religious fundamentalism.

LONG TIME ADMINISTRATOR, VPAA, DR. JOANNA SCHILLING BECOMES CYPRESS COLLEGE’S PRESIDENT
This semester Rio Hondo College not only bids farewell to Spring 2017 graduates but also to Interim Vice President Dr. Joanna Schilling. After meeting with Cypress College’s board of trustees, and addressing the college’s campus community at an open forum, with five other finalists, Schilling was chosen as the school’s 12th president. Schillings will succeed the current president, Dr. Bob Simpson, at the beginning of July.
While Schilling’s transition will be not be easy, Cypress and Rio Hondo’s campus have much in common. Both schools face similar problems and have a similar number of students, Cypress’s campus numbering at 16,000 and Rio Hondo’s at 19,000.
